Outside Pretoria, South Africa.
At the Pilanesberg Game Reserve. Missed out on the really good stuff on the day I went through the park. Didn’t see any lions, in particular, but got good glimpses of zebras, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, kudu, a momma rhino eyeing us carefully as she stood watch over her little baby, and this cute little baby elephant in the scrub.
One of the lasting observations from that visit is how hard it was to see the animals in this real habitat. Made me understand why animals’ sense of smell and hearing are generally much sharper than that of sight.
