The western portion of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, over the San Francisco Bay. This view looks east from the San Francisco side as the bridge connects to Yerba Buena Island on its way through a tunnel and then another portion of the bridge crossing to Oakland. Although the Golden Gate gets a helluva lot more attention, this feat of engineering is just as, if not more, impressive, as it’s much longer and actually is comprised of two bridges and a tunnel. The eastern portion is apparently the world’s widest bridgespan, which emerges from the Yerba Buena tunnel, the world’s biggest bore tunnel.
