In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Graffiti on a pole in Rocinha. Joy, spirit, and peace make their presence felt in one of the country’s most notorious favelas, where poverty, violence, and drug/gang culture purportedly rule the day. One of the things I like about graffiti is the fact that it can appear anywhere. Sometimes it’s art, sometimes it’s language, and sometimes it’s symbolism. But no matter what, like all art, it’s always a message of one sort or another.
