Salute!

Statue Sky Armistead 2At Fort McHenry, Baltimore, Maryland.

On this Veterans Day, shout out to Colonel George Armistead, who defended Ft. McHenry against the British bombardment during the War of 1812…under his command, the fort endured extreme pounding but ultimately prevented the British from entering the harbor, inspiring Francis Scott Key to pen The Star Spangled Banner. Armistead was only in his early 30’s when given the Ft McHenry post, and apparently the stress he endured during the battle contributed to heart disease that led to his death at just age 38.

Thanks to all the vets, past and present, for your great work, inspiration, and sacrifice.
