Detail from the Palau Sant Jordi, a multi-purpose arena in the Olympic park in the Montjuic area of Barcelona. Curves and textures in building design and materials please me. It’s cool how the steely curve here separates the blue slats of the roof section from the gray gridding of the side panels.
The arena was home to several events during the 1992 Olympics, but it didn’t host the basketball tournament that featured the famous US Dream Team that dominated the scene.
Luckily, this arena isn’t an abandoned venue like so many in post-Olympic life, as it still is used today for everything from the Spanish national basketball team to swimming meets (they build a temporary pool inside) to music concerts. Prince played there.
