In San Diego, California
One small section of the world’s largest outdoor pipe organ at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion at Balboa Park. Donated for the 1914 Panama-California Exposition, this organ has over 5,000 pipes–some as small as a pencil and the largest at over 30 feet tall. The park hires a civic organist and offers free Sunday concerts every week of the year, with guest organists from around the world often making appearances.
In case you were wondering, the largest pipe organ in the world (by number of pipes) is the Midmer-Losh pipe organ, which sits in Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall, with over 33,000 pipes.
I think this is the most times I’ve thought, said, or written the word “organ” in one sitting.
