Nos Amis En Guerre

Haitian Soldiers Monument 5In Savannah, Georgia.

At the Haitian Soldiers Monument.  As Memorial Day is for remembering ALL who fought to keep America free, let’s take a moment to remember stories we may forget or never even know about.  This monument honors the bravery of hundreds of Haitians who came to the U.S. in the fall of 1779 to help drive the British out of Savannah during the Revolutionary War.  Merci beaucoup to our Haitian friends in war…we’ll return the favor one of these days.

“Without heroes, we are all plain people, and don’t know how far we can go.”  Bernard Malamud

Happy Memorial Day!  Here’s to everyone, from home and abroad, who’ve sacrificed for the country!
